Board of Directors
GBA General Rules for Coaches
Conduct of Coaches
and Assistant Coaches
Any abuse, either verbal or physical, of any referee, player or
coach will not be tolerated. Violators risk not only forfeiture
of the game involved, but also expulsion from the league. Swearing
will not be tolerated and will result in expulsion from the game.
The Board of Directors will review the circumstances of any coach
or assistant who receives 2 technical fouls during the playing
season. The League reserves the right to impose any restrictions
or penalties on the coach or assistant as a result of the coach
or assistant receiving 2 technical fouls, with the minimum penalty
being a one game suspension.
Coaches are responsible for the conduct of the players, parents,
and associated spectators. Verbal abuse from any parent or spectator
will result in the ejection of the parent and/or spectator and
their associated player who is participating in the game.
Use of Greece Central
Facilities
Anyone accused of damaging any Greece Central facilities or equipment
will be immediately suspended from league participation pending
determination of their participation status. The League reserves
the right to impose any restrictions on the participation of the
coach/player/spectator including expulsion from the league for
the remainder of the participants playing career. The parent or
guardian is financially responsible for any monetary damages.
The person involved will be entitled to a Board hearing. The determination
of the status of the participant by the Board is final.
League Philosophy
The Greece Basketball Association is an instructional league.
As such, the overall guiding principal of the Board of Directors
and the League Commissioners must be the enjoyment of the players,
not the won / lose record of a particular team or coach.
Be positive in your instruction, never criticize a player or group.
Never single out a player or blame one play or call for a loss.
Game Conduct
Coaches should be in control of their players, and the parents
and spectators associated with their team. See paragraph 3 on
page 1 (above). The league code of conduct must be reviewed with
the players and their parents at your first parents meeting. Both
are required to sign the code before starting league participation.
Refer to the league rules concerning technical fouls assessed
to the coach as a result of behavior of players and/or their associated
adults.
One assistant coach and one timekeeper must be designated before
each game. The designated assistant coach is the only adult allowed
in the bench area. The coach is the only person allowed to talk
to the referees during the game. The scorekeeper is not allowed
to coach the team during the game. No other adults are allowed
to coach, provide instruction, talk to the referees or go on the
playing floor during the game, including time-outs. Only one warning
will be given, with a technical foul being assessed to the team
and coach.
All opposing players
and coaches should be treated with the utmost respect
The coach should do everything in his power to keep the game from
becoming a blowout. A short handed team should strive to keep
an equal balance of match-ups on the floor to ensure equal competition
and not embarrass anyone. Equal distribution of extra playing
time is necessary, not only for the game being played, but for
future games. Coaches should keep track of the total amount of
playing time that all players receive.
Coaches should meet before each game to discuss any special situations
concerning their team, such as players being disciplined or not
having their entire team roster present for the game. Refer to
the league rules for the procedure for addressing discipline problems.
Any disputes between coaches should always be handled away from
the court.
